Routine Cleanings, X-rays, & Exam
Here at Heckman Dental routine cleanings are anything but routine. With the treatment being tailored to each individual patient, we can meet your specific needs. During your cleaning appointment with us, you will receive X rays, Oral cancer screening, full periodontal (gingival) evaluation, Scaling (or tarter removal), polishing, patient education, treatment planning, and much more. The American Dental Association recommends that each person visits the dentist for a cleaning and exam at least every 6 months. Regular visits to the dentist are essential in catching tooth decay, periodontal disease, gingivitis, and oral cancer at an early stage.
Periodontal Treatment
Often times, a prophylactic cleaning is not enough to do the job. With patients that present with gingivitis and periodontal disease, further treatment is needed. Periodontal disease results from plaque and bacteria on a susceptible host. When this occurs, the supporting structure of the teeth is compromised, which can eventually lead to premature tooth loss. Removal of the plaque and calcified plaque through a “deep cleaning” is one of the best ways to stop the progression of the disease. Come see our hygienist Tiffany, she has specialty experience in the periodontal field, working with some of the most severe cases of periodontal disease.
Crowns
When a large portion of a tooth is missing (large cavities, broken teeth, root canals), the structural integrity is compromised. Even after a filling, the tooth is still at increased risk for a fracture. A fracture can be a pretty big deal, as often times a crack can go below the gum line, and even the bone, resulting in no other option than a tooth extraction. How can we prevent that from happening? A crown is a tooth-colored cap that fits over all 5 surfaces of a tooth to hold all the pieces together, keeping your tooth all in one piece while functioning optimally. Heckman Dental uses only the best materials; every crown is milled from a solid block of porcelain. With a custom fit and a great appearance you are sure to be satisfied.
Fillings
Teeth with minor damage from decay or trauma can be fixed directly in office with a tooth-colored filling material. We have always placed resin composite fillings since we opened in 2013 (no metal/mercury here!) If decay is present, it will be removed from the tooth. The prepared tooth surface will be bonded and composite will be shaped and molded to approximate the original tooth structure.
Teeth Whitening
Would you like your smile to be a little brighter? We can help. Depending on the nature and intensity of the stain, we offer three levels of teeth whitening to achieve the results you're looking for.
- White Strips: They work just like the ones you get over the counter but Professional Strength
- Take home Trays: Custom trays are made to fit your teeth. Tubes of whitening gel are included to fill the trays and whiten your teeth from the convenience of your own home.
- In-office ZOOM Whitening: The same results from take-home whitening can be achieved in a 1 hour appointment at our office.
